617 South Crest Rd is a contemporary hillside home, architecturally designed and custom built in 1987. The home has two levels, both above ground, measuring 2850 square feet of floor space each for a total of 5700 square feet. There is also a large "wrap-around" porch, under roof, facing West for an additional 800 square feet.
The front entry is over mountain stone steps and floor, through a recessed entryway into a well lit foyer that opens through double doors to a great room that offers a magnificent one hundred-eighty degree view of the mountains, Tennessee river, and downtown Chattanooga and looking West to the Cumberland plateau and the mountains beyond.
The home was built and occupied by the builder for more than twenty years.
Constructed and equipped with the best materials available. The great room measures approximately 1350 square feet featuring glass walls of insulated sliding glass doors and screens by Peachtree Door & Window Company and a twenty-two foot high clerestory ceiling with electric windows. The room has a view South, West and North.

A panoramic view of the great room
The great room is an "open" plan. The owner utilized the room with two seating areas, one in front of the large gas log fireplace and the other for a breath taking view of the city, river and mountains. An area for dining, an area for bridge and another for the custom kitchen. This room begs for parties and has seen as many as one hundred fifty guests. Parking handled by a local valet parking service.
The custom kitchen designed by a local kitchen firm, Cabinets by Woodmode, refrigerator by Sub-Zero, stove and oven by Jenn-Air, dishwasher by GE. The wide kitchen center island measures ten feet, both sides total twenty feet. The back wall counter is twelve feet giving a total of thirty-two lineal feet of counter top. There is a wine display and storage at the north end of the island.
Lighting in the room is recessed and controlled by rheostat switches for owner selected lighting levels. The owner and houseguest, having their favorite beverage, at night with all of the lights turned off and viewing the city, have often enjoyed this room. What a view and what a way to end an evening.
All floors in the home are hard wood, of wide natural pecan with the exception of the three full baths, which are tile.
There are two bedroom suites on the upper level. The master suite is quite large and suitable for a seating area, television viewing and complete privacy. There are two large, his & hers, baths contained in the suite with large connected walk-in closets and dressing rooms in each.
The guest bedroom suite is also spacious and only slightly smaller than the master suite. It also has its on private bath with shower/tub. The room has most of the same features of the master suite. Both bedrooms overlook wooded areas. Privacy is assured.
The very generous sized utility/laundry room is located off a hallway within easy reach of the great room. It has a large pantry for the storage of food, washer and gas dryer connections, shelving and a closet area for cleaning supplies. There is also room for a household office.
The lower level is reached by a stairway off the hallway near the guest room. There is also an outside entry way on the lower level.
There is a bedroom/office located on the lower level. However the lower level is basically undeveloped and contains twenty-eight hundred and fifty squire feet of floor space, same as the upper level. It also contains the heating and air conditioning units and Gas hot water heater. The ceiling is ten feet allowing plenty of room for pipes and ductwork when built out. It is wired for power, roughed-in plumbing for a full bath and the exterior walls are insulated.
The lower level would support several more bedrooms or even an in-home office for business. It would need to meet city and county codes, of course. It would certainly cut down on commute time.
This home has certain security features that will be revealed at the time of purchase.
The driveway is approximately one hundred fifty long with walls of mountain stone.
The landscaping of the acreage has been left in a natural state. There is no lawn to maintain.
